We're back, inspired by this thread...
We had a lively conversation over at BattleClinic about mixing guns, which prompted me to go ahead and revive this site.
We're looking forward to hearing more from you about this topic!

Thanks; this has been a very helpful blog. It seems counterintuitive, based on experience with other games, but it makes sense.
Thanks :P
I always love to write "DontMixGuns.com" . Less explaining for me . more info for the new people
Hey I'm new to EvE and hadn't even though about the effects of mixing guns. So far your blog has been helpful :)
Hi SghnDubh,
Thanks for the clear words and, more importantly, the actual explanation. I found out why mixing guns is bad the old-fashioned way: Trial and Error. I fact, during the year or so that I've been playing EVE now, the worst loadout I ever had was a mix of Arty and AC. On a Catalyst to boot... what can I say, I was young :-p

While your argument about non-native guns is one that had never occurred to me (Why would I fit hybrids or lasers, when as a Minmatar I get bonuses to projectiles ?), I'm assuming (always dangerous) that your main argument lies in PvP, since (being Min, not Gal, and therefore not being surrounded at all times by a fleet of drones) I find guns of differing types a necessity in PvE where you will face fleets of rats all heading in to differing optimum ranges (including niggly webbing frigates you need to shoot quickly.

Hi, no; mixed guns is *even worse* in PVE for the reasons mentioned in the blog. Take another read-through. The goal of missions is to get through them as quickly as possible. If you are having problems with enemies staggered at multiple ranges, your strategy is to use drones, smart-bombs, or webbers-and-focused-fire on close-in ships. Pop them quickly then focus all fire on the tougher targets.
